Capital punishment is intended to provide proof of the ability of the state to impose fear of the state, ergo it's a good idea to execute a few innocents from time to time just for the re-inforcement value alone.
You may call it revenge or if you will punishment. I on the other hand call it justly deserved.
The death penalty is obsolete. Nothing of value is gained by executions. Life without parole is much more to be desired.
