Emulating Sozobe, here. Great idea about collecting stories about the baby and giving them as gifts, btw.
OK. Ya-ya has "no" down pat. Shakes head emphatically when you ask her a question. More difficult getting her to tell us "yes." The best she's done is to sign "more" when we ask her a question like "do you want more pizza?"
Last night, my wife decided to help her out a little. She reached over, put her hand on Ya-ya's head, and helped her nod. Little Ya-ya got the idea immediately. She reached up, put both hands on top of her head, and proceded to bend repeatedly from the waist.
HA!
that is great.
Ya-ya is .. a year and a half? right?
post pictures with your thread.
It makes for a great visual time line also.
That and we parents love to see pictures of pretty babies. :-)
O she's so cute!! I'm far too young to have kids - but i work(ed) at Mencap for the last 2 years and while we discourage signing in a lot of the kids (most of them can speak but choose not to) there are some who just have to sign as they're totally elective mutes It's great when they finally master something!!
All parents must make the decision of what language to use to describe the baby's, er, diaper area.
For Ya-ya, we use either "vulva" or "heinie." She can only say the second. ("EYE-nay!")
At dinner with Ya-ya's maternal grandfather, I was helping her draw with the crayons. She wanted me to draw a baby. So I did. I filled in the details, eyes, nose, mouth, belly-button, then... drew a diaper.
Yesterday, Ya-ya had a new word, "bird," which she pronounces "boyd."
Mommy prompted her to tell me the new word, and I clap and praise Ya-ya. Then she says "boyd" again.... she doesn't get the same response. Then, she says/signs "peas" (please) <clap>!
So we praised and praised. She giggled and giggled....
