As top-level international negotiations to try to limit greenhouse gas emissions start later this month in Paris, the AP-NORC poll taken in mid-October shows about two out of three Americans accept global warming and the vast majority of those say human activities are at least part of the cause.

However, fewer than one in four Americans are extremely or very worried about it, according the poll of 1,058 people. About one out of three Americans are moderately worried and the highest percentage of those polled — 38 percent — were not too worried or not at all worried.

Despite high profile preaching by Pope Francis, only 36 percent of Americans see global warming as a moral issue and only a quarter of those asked see it as a fairness issue, according to the poll which has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.7 percentage points.

Sounds like the lefty message is not getting through. You gotta wonder if major media is driving their stocks even lower everytime they do another "SEE, GLOBAL WARMING!" piece.

Antarctica is gaining more ice than it has lost, according to a new study by NASA.

A NASA team came to this conclusion after scientists examined the heights of the region's ice sheet measured from satellites.

The new methods used by scientists to come to this study's conclusion, such as measuring small height changes in the ice over large areas, warrant consideration. But the findings do conflict with more than a decade of research indicating that Antarctica is losing ice and that the loss has contributed to rising global sea levels.

Many scientists agree that the Antarctic Peninsula and parts of West Antarctica are losing ice and that the rate of loss is increasing. In the eastern part of the continent and part of the interior, there have been ice gains. These gains, scientists from the study say, are more than the losses in the rest of the region.

This net gain in ice would mean that Antarctica would not be contributing to sea level rises, but could help offset some of the major ice losses in places from Greenland and glaciers worldwide.

Scientists suspect that increased snowfall, which began 10,000 years ago, is the reason for the gain in Antarctica. Over the years, the snow has accumulated and compacted to form ice.

This snowfall added 112 billion tons of ice each year from 1992 to 2001, but the rate slowed to 82 billion tons per year from 2003 and 2008.

However, this isn't good news for our climate necessarily. Authors of the study say the increasing loss of ice in the West Antarctic and the peninsula, plus slowing ice gains elsewhere on the continent, could mean that there will be overall losses of ice in the next 20 years.

In fact, this may already be occurring, according to other research published as recently as this week, which suggests the West Antarctic ice sheet is destabilizing, which would more than overcome the ice gains and could result in 3 meters of sea level rise.

Right now, it's believed that ice loss in Antarctica contributes to roughly 8% of global sea level rise. This rise can been seen in recent high tides in coastal cities like Miami.

If this study is correct, and Antarctica is not contributing to this rise in sea level, that means scientists must be underestimating the impact from other sources of sea level rise -- such as from melting from Greenland or the heating of the oceans

Someone please wake me if these clowns ever figure out what is going on. Up till now it as been a lot of maybe's and a lot of being wrong.

NY AG isubpoenas exxon mobil for poohpoohing climate change to investors at the same time its inhouse scientists were telling the company it was very real and serious, and exxon was channeling money to right wing think tanks to push the spurious message. Just as we've been saying for years. Exxon changed its tune a few years ago. Very good article on this in Nov 5 NYT, I'm posting this from a tablet, and can't figure out how to cut and paste, but I recommend the nyt articl

@hawkeye10,
Those NASA folks faked the apolo missions, right? How do they expect us to believe them now?... Everybody knows the moon is made of cheese.

@hawkeye10,
The Apollo missions were just as real as global warming. Don't comment about scientific issues you have no understanding of.

The scientists who work on the so called human caused global warming problem keep being massively wrong, which means that they dont understand what is going on. I dont need to understand what is going on myself to understand this. And my belief that we should not knock ourselves out doing anything the change things till we have a better sense of what is going on is basic common sense. We should right now be spending big on studying and learning, we might just start setting up legal and political structures to support a mass human intervention on Earth's health, but now is not the time to act on the intervention. We are still largely clueless.

@hawkeye10,
And just to be clear, if we dont understand the problem then we cant plot the best solution. I dont know that stopping human CO2 production is possible, nor do I know that trying to do it is the best solution. Maybe our management of the CO2 should be dont by putting something else in the atmosphere to counteract it. Maybe we can devise CO2 sinks. Let's figure out how this planet works and go from there.

@hawkeye10,
Uh, hawk, the scientists who say ther is anthropogenic global warming keep being massively RIGHT. 2015 is the warmest year in history. The glacers arer melting. Seas levl is rising faster. The ocens are wrmin and acidifying. Climate zones are moving northward. CO2 is undniably a greenhouse gas and the increase is manmade. We'll never know everhing about anything, but weknow enough NOW to know we'd better get on the stick'.
