I did some online searching and found the Carter Hotel in midtown. Seems reasonable, but I don't know anything about hotels in NYC. Might require additional investigating.

Phone: (212)944-6000 - Fax: (212)398-8541 - carterhotel@aol.com

Thank you all, info forwarded to the friend. He'll make his own decision, but there's so much information that one easily gets lost in it. Hence the pointers for him.

...Seafarer is already booked, month in advance, naturally.

Re: McTag (Post 3397764)
nah. i am surrounded by international people. my housemates are norwegian and indian, my coworkers are greek, italian, french, but also 3 cloggies - one of them is the boss, and two very taken colleagues.

no rush, no rush... most of them are very pink. not my type really. i am eyeing the immigrant population a lot more than the natives.

Sounds like a real melting pot dag.

A genetic stew some might say. Not me though. I never say anything like that.

Your regards appreciated, reciprocated and returned with interest, Spendy.
Lola expressed an interest in your idea.

Lola here.

I may be too late, but the Beacon on the Upper West Side is very nice and reasonably priced. And a good mid town hotel is The Pickwick Arms. It's a nice hotel used known and used by many visiting Europeans.

Yes but most visiting Europeans are musicians are they not? Like Elton John.

I will be headed to Amsterdam...concretely to Amsterdamse Bos (the Amsterdam "forest"...chuckle)

But New Amsterdam will have to wait. You can meet a colleague of mine who's going next week, but why would you.

You know I am waiting for you, but if a colleague needed to know, for example, where to find mesquite smoked chicken or had to be escorted through the winding paths of Central Park's Ramble to the Boathouse...

where to find clam pizza

closest to the Seafarer's so it'll be the one to try

Quote:
Otto
Nothing about Otto’s underrated griddled pizzas is orthodox, including their Vongole pie ($14). While pecorino is the cheese of choice among most white-clam-pie connoisseurs, Otto uses fresh mozzarella, and rather than spend endless hours shucking, they steam New Zealand cockles and plop them right on top of the pizza, shells and all—fifteen cockles per pie. “For the true Italian clam lover, the shell is the guarantee of freshness,” says partner Mario Batali. “It means one less step away from the sea.” 1 Fifth Ave., at 8th St.; 212-995-9559.

He's there now. I don't think they are eating or anything. they are young and celbrating some sort of an anniversary. i'm almost positive that all they will see of new york is the hotel room

i, on the other hand, would love a mequite smoked chicken and a Central park stroll. I'm feeling damn sentimental when I see an episode of Cops or something silly like that (which I wouldn't even have watched in the States, but now all of a sudden it looks like home or something).

Can you actually eat one of those Beth?

Sheesh!

You should try double steak and kidney pudding, double chips, mushy peas, gravy, double bread and butter and a pint of hot strong tea on top of six pints of John Smith's Extra Smooth.

Get a life.

Poetic, Spendy.

Hey we just spent some time with Bernie and Lola in Portland and I'll be writing that up on the California Thread (don't ask). (link on request)

They are in fine fettle btw, super, marvellous.
