Wake up Computer

Reply Fri 17 Dec, 2004 11:10 pm
I have Windows XP home edition and i was wondering if there is a way for me to turn my computer into a alarm clock. So that my computer would wake up from hibernation after a preset amount of time. For Example: if i want eight hours of sleep i type in eight and hibernate the computer and then it would wake itself up. Any Help would be appreciated.

Seems like there would have to be, doesn't there. My problem is that if I let it sleep too long, it doesn't want to wake it up. Actually, it goes into a coma.

What we're looking for here is just a little higher in the tech department.

Next thing you know, they'll make one that comes on whenever you whistle, or just clap your hands.

Microsoft Plus! has an alarm, among other media toys.

I do not know if it works with hibernation.

I have a XP Media Center power tweak for my alarm, but I don't use it.

There is also freeware (just beware of spyware) out there for the purpose of using your computer as an alarm.

Ultimately, the concept is very simple. It's just a scheduled task to play a sound file.

I haven't experimented with them using hibernation but give it a whirl, it should be pretty easy.

Get a Mac. I've set mine to start up at nine every morning. No problem at all. It's in the power department, so to speak,

This works for me:

WakeMeUP v1.4
written by Vance Grkov
Copyright (C) 1999 - 2001 Vance Grkov
All Rights Reserved

This is a Freeware Program.

1. Configuration

When you start the program for the first time it will automatically search for your MP3/WAV player and your CD player paths. If this doesn't work, you will need to set them manually. To do this, run the program and go to 'Tools' (menu) and then 'Options', or just click on the Options icon.

2. How to use WakeMeUP 1.2a

To set up the time when you want the alarm to activate your CD or MP3/WAV player go to 'File' - 'Set Alarm' or click on the Alarm icon.

There you can enter the time you want the alarm to be activated and what should be started - your CD player or your MP3/WAV player (and for the MP3/WAV you can specify which mp3 song should be played).

NOTE: The internal watch operates on a 24 hour time keeping [no AM / PM].
Ex.
5:30 AM = 5:30 (5:3 will work too)
5:30 PM = 17:30

You can turn the alarm ON and OFF from the "switch" button on the main window.

3. Running status

If the minimize button is clicked the program still runs in the background. To restore it, double-click its icon in the system tray or right click the icon in the system tray and from the Popup menu select 'Restore'

If you want WakeMeUP to be automatically started every time you start your computer create a shortcut in the windows 'startup' folder.

Please e-mail any questions or comments to support@monaki.com and I will reply ASP.
