A former America's Cup yacht has hit rocks surrounding the Sydney Opera House, throwing sailors into the harbour and losing its keel.

Luckily no-one was injured when the 22-metre yacht, the FT Spirit, hit rocks near the seawall in Farm Cove at 12.30pm, while on a charter sail for the Financial Times newspaper.

Nah, they were a good 10-15m off the wall. It just bottomed out and tore off the keel. Once that happens you're buggered.

It will be back in the water in a couple of weeks. They'd just be worried about possible damage to the mast.

It be the Wreckers. What with them luring a ship onto the rocks and poundin' in a salt's head all for the pickings in her hold. Arrr, it be a sad day when a modern musical venue and Sydney icon should have to stoop to such depths to keep the bottom line in order.
