Linear = -

Circular = O

Spherical = O + - bisecting O into a gyroscope

Everyone knows what kind of thinker they are. Few aspire to think differently.

Embarrassed I sincerely hope I did not come off as insensitve.

This is just a theory I'm working on. To me, there are three types of thinkers, as stated in the original post. Linear thinkers are the ones who may not shine (in the office, let's say) but they are the ones happy to do the paperwork, take care of the real business, with no desire to rise above their position in life. That is not a fault, it's an assett.

Circular thinkers are linear thinkers with a mission. They combine their linear knowledge with a desire to learn more, and actively pursue that path to further education.

Spherical thinkers are those who see life in global terms. They have moved on from the circular, and can see things in 3D. There are no longer any simple answers, just vision.

I'm a divergent thinker, Cav. I often move outside that circle, so I guess that makes me a keliedeoscopic thinker. Smile

Cav

Letty has given us a new category, divergent, hmm.

I would have to say I fit into all of those categories at any given time, it depends on my level of interest.

The best I can do at any given time is keep an open mind, the minute I think I know something my mind becomes like concrete, all mixed up and permanently set.

I would have to say my thinking vacillates.

while we live in a 4 dimensional world, our sentience provides a 5th, but that one is for each of us alone.

I tend to think outside the circle when I decide to think at all; otherwise it is just the S.O.S.
We are creatures of habit, right?

So, I'm thinking (outside the circle of course) that the largest section of our daily lives is carried out without doing much thinking at all.

kuvasz, seeing you here led me to ponder an interesting thought about dogs that Cav, colorbook, and I were discussing. Do dogs have a sixth sense? Sorry for the divergency. Razz

Yes, gumby, welcome to our carousel of color.

Wonderful replies so far. Letty, I would like to continue that talk about dogs and sixth sense. Incidentally, a divergent thinker can still be considered a spherical thinker.

Okay, Cav. Like Paula, I wasn't certain what you meant, and I didn't want to spoil the effect by looking it up. Why don't you start a thread on the sixth sense of dogs. That ought to be quite interesting.

I think the distinction you're looking for is between:

- people who were not encouraged to succeed
- people who were encouraged to succeed
and
- people who have been way too heavily educated in the social sciences

This is not a question of epistomology.

funny, rufio.

I was thinking we were being too rough on secretaries.

Clerical types can have vision.
