Open meld and pick pack with Aces and jokers

I had a heated discussion on this topic. I have 3 aces in my hand, and the player before me discards an ace. Then at my initial meld I put down the 3 aces and a joker, 3 pure of something else, and 125 points, and then take the pack with the top ace which is added to the initial Ace meld. I have satisfied all conditions for picking the pack at the initial meld, including using a joker on Aces. Does it matter that I took the pack with an Ace on top? I think this is a legal meld with aces and joker.
