right, it was "smothered" not "destroyed" (that's the one I referred to earlier but I was going from [faulty] memory)

The parents wanted to name their baby after a musical term "con dolcezza" (literally, with sweetness), but either they or the registry office clerk couldn't spell, so the "c" was replaced with "e" - Condoleezza. For some reason similar misspellings abound within some groups - see "Oprah", presumably intended to be "opera", and countless others.

it's actually my "husband smothered my groundcover"

and i did read it as grandmother the first time

My understanding is she was supposed to be named Orpah (it's Biblical).
