Spellcheck/ Do You Use This Feature on A2K?

Reply Thu 30 Jan, 2003 09:08 am
I have to admit that I have NEVER used the spellcheck on A2K. I don't know why. Stubborn, I guess. I usually wait until I have written a post, and then notice that something does not look right. I also find that many of my boo-boos are typos and not spelling errors. I obviously think faster than I can type.

I am like the guy who does crossword puzzles in pen. I usually end up having to edit my post AFTER the fact.

I have Atomica, a little program where you can look up words while you are doing something else on the computer, and check that. I find that very handy, when I can't find the right word, which is often.

Do YOU use Spellcheck on A2K? Do you find it helpful and handy? Can you convince me why I should end my sloppy habits, bite the bullet, and admit that although I am a good speller, I am not perfect, well........... Very Happy

Nope! I'm the same way. Editing rocks. I almost always use the quick reply window, and type in bb code if needed (italics or whatever.) Just less steps, and I'm usually A2K'ing in quick little bursts when I have a moment.

I try to check the spelling when I have time. Right now, I'm having a problem posting and frequently I am ending up with 3 or 4 copies of the same post. Thus, I have to spend more time going back to delete the extra posts.

New Haven- Just removed a duplicate post of yours here. Took me at least 5 minutes. The server is going bananas the last day or so. It is very slow. When I try to post, and I see that it is not "taking", I click again. I think that the double and triple posting has to do with the extra clicking.

Wonder if these problems have anything to do with the "worm" that was burrowing around the internet last week? Evil or Very Mad

Check the Announcements forum. I have contacted the hosting company about the slowdown.

Nope. Content is my problem, not spelling, and spell-check won't help that!

I do. It helps me to locate and to correct typing slips (like "alraedy" instead of "already"). The only problem is that the spellchecker considers such words as "U.S." or "Saddam Hussein" being errors...

Where I come from, (Brooklyn) using colour or flavour or any British form of spelling would be considered snobbiness, a gross affectation![/b]

Well, 'tis pronounced "chumly" - I was humorously and sneakily agreeing with Beth about "proper" spelling- saying she was a real chum - (friend) - in a very British spelling sort of a way!

EhBeth, why do you consider American spelling being erroneous? It is used by larger number of people than the British one. I understand that Canada is a part of the British Commonwealth, therefore British spelling there cannot be replaced with anything else. But the USA is an independent country since 1776...
