The point of it all?

Hey binny

Not to rain on your parade, but I am convinced as you are that there is no point....but I find this condition liberating, even uplifting.

If there was a point, freedom would be meaningless. If there was a point, there would be a correct way to think, and a correct interpretation for every event, and no reason to tolerate personal differences.

Cheer up. Make your own point.

or at least predestination... I guess there's a difference...

I guess determinism is predestination with a point.

Well, you got me there....

You have no choice but to be depressed. But at least it isn't your fault.

I disagree. being depressed is taking the easy way out. Even if we are "fated" to do [insert an event], it's still you deciding to do it, and writing your fate, not your fate writing you. Do you get what I'm trying to communicate? Cheer up, Binny. We'd all miss you if you were gone.

I get it but disagree Smile

I think my fate writes me. That some people think they control it just seems to me like they don't see that their decision-making process is fed to them by the laws of the universe.

But that's just me Smile

And besides, I may have come up with a way to still make it in life, and maybe even be as successful as I once could have been!

I'd kill myself except the possibility I might be wrong (but I'm not) Smile

It is all useless suffering...

Binny: I know that we're all governed by physical laws, but within that paradigm, we still have free will. Our thoughts might be governed by laws(we can't really think of something impossible, like nothing) but our decisions aren't. Nothing is preventing me from choosing either a, b, or c, except myself. That's free will.

You only think you have free will. You decisions are determined by your past experiences and your biological makeup. You have no real choices.

... binnyboy is always correct ...

My thoughts exactly...

Hehe it's like the question "If I were you, would I do it?" Of course I would!!! I'd be you Smile

I hope I'm wrong, but I don't think I am Smile

I hope you're right Taliesin

DO you believe in purpose binny? Do you believe you have your abilities and experiences to accomplish something....?

Nope. Maybe, cosmically (and ironically) just in order to find out I can accomplish nothing useful. But I am skeptical on even that.

scientifically, i guess to further develop our species by increasing its collective knowledge untill it can go no further (if its possible it can ever be at its full potential). And once there, i guess todays scientists don't have to think that far ahead.

spiritually, that would depend on the individual. Me, I think to become spiritually aware on the highest level of understanding (i doubt that will ever happen).

But as a general reason for life, a motto to which i live by:

"The point of life is too live by experiencing real human moments"

sounds kind of corny, but it works
