Military attack on peaceful protesters is underway

Armed law enforcement officers and soldiers, including some in riot gear, are closing in on protesters camped in the path of the Dakota Access. Authorities with trucks, police cars, military Humvees and buses began the operation just before midday, with sirens blaring and officials telling protesters over a loudspeaker to move out. Two helicopters and a fixed-wing airplane monitored the operation from the air.
There is no excuse for military tactics being used on behalf of a private corporation that's benefiting from government lands, against peaceful protesters who believe the pipeline could harm cultural sites and drinking water for the Standing Rock Sioux tribe.
Shame on North Dakota. Shame on the federal government for not stopping this, and for dismissing the concerns of the Standing Rock Sioux and other tribes.

I just scoured google news without finding a reference to this story. Also have never seen a reference to the struggle from the two presidential candidates, so, thanks also to Clinton and Trump.

@edgarblythe,
When I compare this to the reaction to the Bundy occupation of Malheur, I can see (again) how it pays to be white in the United States.

@ehBeth,
I mentally compared this outcome to the OJ Simpson case. A sympathetic jury can forgive the most heinous crimes.

The police are now also taking aim at journalists, having shot Erin Schrode with their rubber bullets.

@edgarblythe,
There may be very little reaction from the board, but I feel it's worthwhile to keep placing the information so at least a few may finally become aware of the mistreatment of the persons living at Standing Rock.

I've greatly appreciated the efforts you've put forth so far.

@Sturgis,
The social media still posts about it but it is getting harder to get good feed on it.

@edgarblythe,
It's rare for presidential candidates to speak about the rights and needs of the indigenous peoples, they don't constitute a large enough voting group to concern them.

@Sturgis,
To me this is a kind of litmus test. Much like The TPP trade agreement, which politicians claim to be against, but which Obama hopes to ramrod through between Tuesday and the end of the year.
