HELP.. wife diagnosed with rhizopus species* S.O.S

the dr that sent off my wifes sputum sample got results back and lab sent it to mayo and mayo says rhizopus species and dr said she has rare mold and he cant treat and for her to go to her dr and he fwded info to her dr who sent her to infectious who inturn took her off every antibiotic and said we start from scratch and says everyone has rhizopus as its that time of year and we explain but he not listening and scheduled a ct 2 weeks and come back in 3.. well from what i read the clock is not stopping and its growning and she coughs up blood and we been to every er and they show lungs building fluid and give antibiotic and send home and dont goive a shtr bout rhizopus cause it an er and life threatening only... am i retarded and is this common or is it not and she has droppped 35lbs.. SOMEONE PLEASE HAVE MERCY AND HELP

Go to another doctor and another until they stop giving you the runaround. Threaten to go to the press if you have to.

Rhizopus is a mold, not a bacteria, so antibiotic won't help anyway. That being said, I have no idea how to treat a rhizopus mold infection. Hopefully you can find someone who knows how to treat this.

Don't know your finances, but have you considered calling up the Mayo Clinic and asking for an appointment? They sort of already are involved with the diagnosis. If nothing else, maybe they can recommend a Mayo-trained specialist in your area.

I'm agreeing with Blickers.

I'll add that when I used to work in the medical world, there used to be infectious disease specialists, at least at university hospitals - and I bet there still are.

I'd also look up your local or not so local university hospitals and see if they have an infectious disease department, call them, and relate the urgency of the situation.
