car lighter destroying usb chargers

Jag I've had a similar experience, evidently very mysterious to the entire panoply. They've had my car now for about a year, apparently not quite sure what to do, how to start. Pun intended

Have you somehow reconnected anything recently
Possibly the lighter is supposed to be connected not to the metered load but directly to the battery so have you tried recharging without the engine running

Indeed are you sure you're supposed to charge the usb when the engine is running
