Fruit and vegetable intakes represented only 3% to 4% of New Yorkers' daily energy intake as opposed to 8% in the study sample.

The sentence above is trying to say that the fruit and vegetable intakes of the study sample represented 8% of their daily energy intake. Is the sentence written correctly/clear? Thanks very much.
