Hey, caramel. Seems as though both of us want to remember Elmer. Smile

If you like, I'll delete my tribute.

thok, I guess when I read something in the news, I consider it general news. It could have been in the music category, also, I guess.

"The Man With the Golden Arm" is my favorite and high on my list of all-time favorite film scores.
"The Great Escape" is also a magnificent score. It would be impossible to forget what he contributed to motion picture score history.

Bernstein only won one Oscar -- best musical score for "Thoroughly Modern Millie." His best work, however, was the unforgettable score for "The Magnificent Seven." That year's Oscar nominees (1960) for best musical score were:
The Alamo -- Dimitri Tiomkin Elmer Gantry -- Andre Previn Exodus -- Ernest Gold The Magnificent Seven -- Elmer Bernstein Spartacus -- Alex North
Exodus was the winner, no doubt helped by the best-selling theme. All in all, it was some pretty stiff competition, but I remain partial to "The Magnificent Seven."

Some great scores in a single year -- the Alex North "Spartacus" is also a very worthy score.
