Well, mate, - they have given you a place where you can read it online for free....

Not too sure what more they can do?

This all too droll. One almost suspects one of the Pythons is behind this thread. Can't be sure...

Could be. I love the surly rejoinders. Someone's patience is being tested, perhaps...

I think I need an interpreter here. What were we talking about?

We aren't talking.

We are arguing.

Well, Christina isn't strictly ARGUING - s/he is only contradicting.

See, MA?

That was a mere and absolutely devoid of wit contradiction - NOT an argument.

hee-hee indeed.

Only reason I even looked at this thread is that back in my undergraduate days (that must've been, lessee, around the time of the Woodrow Wilson presidency or mayhap a tad earlier), I wrote a term paper on the origins of the Arthurian legend for a really unbearably stuffy old prof who gave me a lousy A-minus because he didn't like my style in footnoting. Malory is a Johnny-come-lately to the round table. Might as well read T.E. White if you're gonna read Malory; at least White writes modern (intelligible) English. Learn Latin and Old French if you want the scoop on the once and future king.

BTW. you're right, Set. My paperback copy of The Book of Merlyn carries a 1977 copyright date.

In sooth, Sir Set, you do misread me. I am but a free lance, on no errantry. False? My golden spurs do belie that charge.

Heehee - White mentioned twice - and never correctly - on this thread.

I shall make it three - and correct.

It's T.H. White!!!!

I believe he has been conflated with the author of Charlotte's Web - and Lawrence of Arabia.

I am not altogether sure about the Charlott's Web reference, though.....

So it's "Charlott's Web", is it, dlowan? Do tell me that this truncation in the form of e-lessness is an Antipodal characteristic practiced by you lot as a regionalism.

I have a feeling that anyone who thought the film Excalibur was a good movie would have a difficult time slogging through a Cliffs Notes version of the Arthurian legend, let alone Mallory.

Try Amazon again...Le Morte D'Arthur: King Arthur and the Legends of the Round Table (Signet Classics) (Paperback)
Also, try the Once and Future King
P.S. Excalibur is one of my all-time favorite movies too. It's been quite awhile since I've seen it. Also, Bruckheimer (CSI, etc.) apparently did a version in 2004. All six copies in my local library are either checked out, overdue, or "missing..." enjoy. (Let's pray-and vote-for the return of Camelot 2008)

OMG--I answered the original question w/o seeing the thread first--is someone really confusing E.B. White--"The Elements of Style," "Charlotte's Web," and "Stuart Little" --with T.H. White? Ouch.
Mebbe 'tis tyme for me t'view Spamalot...Nothing like coming home to a dead rat (poor little Stuart...)
Just saw First Knight w/Sean Connery & Richard Gere-not bad at all. But How could one go wrong with those two? Lucky Guenevere...
Noteworthy Oldie: The Man Who Would be King w/ Sir Sean & Michael Kane.
