Joseph was about 90 years old when he died

Joseph was about 60 years old when he was espoused to Mary. He died when Jesus was to start His ministry at about aged 30. He wished to die ahead of Jesus because he did not want to see His sufferings.

On the plight to Egypt of the Holy Family, they were caught of the band of thieves headed by Dimas (the "good" thief crucified with Jesus at Calvary). The thieves argued and to settle the difference, Dimas and Hestas (the "bad" thief crucified with Jesus at Calvary). fought. The Holy Family will be released if Dimas won. If Hestas won, the Holy Family will be killed.

The Holy Family is composed of Joseph (old man), Mary (woman), and Jesus (child). Before joining the band of thieves, it was agreed that old person, woman, and child will be respected.

Dimas won and he took the Holy Family to his place.
