@farmerman,
Jerry Douglas is arguably the best dobro player alive(and he has a voice that really makes this cover go waay beyond Simon and Fargunkles version).

Those who unashamedly follow country music will recognize the teeny beautiful voice of Allison Krauss on the harmony

@farmerman,
I never heard of Jerry Douglas, but I agree it's a good one. I have records of this song by both Simon and Bullwinkle and Bob Dylan.

@farmerman,
Probably the second best Knopfler tune after "Money For Nothin"> (which, of course , cannot be played in Canada in its full length because of the use of the word "faggot" as spoken by an appliance schlepper . (never can figure out hoq qe ban **** for stupidest of reasons)
ANYWAY, after Dire STraits and Guns and Roses and Skynyrd, the rock world began to close up on its supply of creativity. IMHO

When I started building my record collection in the 50s, I got some Mario early on. Fantastic artist.

I liked that one by Dire Straights right away, too.

@farmerman,
Just so it doesnt sound like I only listen to that devil music Rock and Roll (thank you JEEEZus). Heres a cut I keep on a playlist at my lab. Its really soothing and I met Bhatt years ago at a concert, got him to sign an album. Cooder was a douche bag who was so into blue jelly beans I dont know if he was on drugs or what.
