In my Gmail inbox the e-mails are sorted by date with recent on top.

How do I go down to an e-mail a long time ago without clicking page by page?

@gollum,
Suppose I want mail before June 1, 2010,

In the "Search" box, I would type
"before:2010/06/01".

Use the date format "YYYY/MM/DD".

@George,
George-

I thanked you a few years ago for your helpful answer.

I tried to use your answer again today but it didn't work.

You said you would type:

"before:2010/06/01".

Would you input the quotation marks in the Search Box or are they just to tell me to input that which is in between the two quotation marks?

I construe it as the word before, then without a space, a colon, then without a space 2010/06/01

Then I guess a dot (.)

Is that correct?

Many thanks.

I don't use the quotes or the period.
