My husband embarrassed me so much today I can`t believe it. I feel like I want to hide under a blanket and not to get out for around 4 years or so.
I was asked by my employer to go to the store and buy some things that we needed the same day for the job, and that they will refund me.
At the moment we were on the way to the park where we intended to have a walk.
When we delivered the things to the place I work at, he asked my immediate supervisor for 5 dollars gas money. I couldn`t believe it. I wanted to hide under a rock and not get out for years. Especially because we live only 5 minutes away from work.
My immediate supervisor was obviously surprised especially because my husband insisted on the money and man he made me look so stingy and weird. FOR FIVE DOLLARS!!!!
Now I think my reputation has gone down a lot, and that my boss might think that I am the one asking for the money. Oh Lord, I feel so bad. Please help me with answers and support.

Thank you. Do you think I might get fired for this? I am not American and I just moved here 1 year ago and therefore I can`t understand whether this type of communication is okay for american culture or my husband crossed the red line?

he may look stingy and weird, but that's on him, not you

You might want to talk with your husband. Explain this is your job, and it is your professional image and reputation and they are a lot more important (and valuable) than $5 in gas money.

I agree with all, and I'd be embarrassed too, though maybe he is from a different culture? They did say they would refund it, you said so in your opening post.
