A lie is a false statement made with deliberate intent to deceive.
It requires that the speaker knew his statement was false. Simple mistakes
are not lies.
A lie must also be a statement of fact. Opinions are not statements of fact.
If I say:"You are a fool", that is an OPINION.
Compare that with this statement: "You served 3 years in prison", which is a statement of fact and may qualify as a lie if it is not true.
