On a forum I read a person wrote "...dressed in the vernacular of the Colombian coffee farmer..." Is that a legitimate use of "vernacular"? It seems like a stretch to me.
I agree with you. I've never known vernacular to refer to anything but language and architecture.
By the way, it's good to see you again.
