A better question might be: where will salaries come from if college does not become "free"? At the moment those salaries are loan-funded, by loans taken out by naive poor kids saddling themselves with debt from which they will never recover. As time goes on, however, kids will wise up to what a scam college has become, and loans whose money flows ultimately into the pockets of researchers at our top institutions will dry up and disappear, leaving our science chasing that in Europe, where education is "free".
