I need advise regarding my shelter dog, 12 - 18 mos. old. She HATES being in a crate which is making housebreaking very hard. When crated she poops and steps in it, having a fit, jumping around trying to get out. I think she may have been a puppy mill dog. Her personality is great, just this one probem. I would appreciate help.
It might be best if you resort to a baby's playpen, and then stand by. As soon as she defecates, remove her and praise her. She may have an early negative association with the crate, or any confined space.
