Which of these sentences is correct?

- 'What generates sense of humor, and how?'
- 'What does generate sense of humor, and how?'

You might write: "What generates a sense of humor, and how?"--however, a native speaker would not say that, either. The verb most likely be used with the locution "a sense of humor" would likely be develop. "How does one develop a sense of humor?"
