While I was at work today I had an interesting yet unimportant question pop into mind. The question is:

When someone is telling you a story about a person(s) that you don't know, do you automatically assume they are the same colour as yourself unless other wise stated?

I know it doesn't matter what colour people are, but do we subconsciously do this?

i will assume that the person is of the race that is predominant in the area of the setting of the story, so if the story takes place in upper middle class america i will assume they are white unless details of the story make me think otherwise
