I happened to see an interesting idiom : wear the hat

The expression means having sex, if I'm not mistaken
and I'm curious about the origin of it.

Wearing the hat.
What does it have to do with getting laid?
You native speakers actually don't think about the origin while saying that?

How about 'wear A hat'?
If I said to my wife, 'Hey honey. I'm mad horny, and I'd like to wear A hat.'
Then, would she hand me a real hat as 'wear a hat' has nothing to do with making love?

Silly, huh?
I know. I'm just curious.

Probably, that's the thing about idiom, it's only really understood by those who use it.

I have never heard this idiom refer to sex in general, I have heard it refer to putting on a condom.

Wearing the trousers usually refers to the dominant person in a relationship.

@izzythepush,
I see. So, hat here probably indicates a condom,
and then it would make more sense.

Thank you.
Now I think I can remember it with ease.
