Hi All, I am rattled today when I tried to answer the following question:

"Now that she is fully trained, she hopes to earn her living as a ................. in an office."

Select one:
A.typewriter
B.secretary
C.staff
D.personnel

I think all of the above are correct. Can anyone help me? Please tell which one is correct and WHY other options would be incorrect. Thanks, Rajib

@rajibdahal,
1. administrative staff worker
2. clerk or
3. clerk typist (only if typing is all that the worker does)
4. administrative clerk

FYI. over the last 25 years, due to political correctness, people are not called secretaries; however, that would have been the simple name for such a worker.

p.s. a typewriter is a device, not a person

No Raj. Try "typist"
Otherwise she's a machine

B.secretary
Okay

Quote:
C.staff
No, 'cause sorta plural. You might say "staff member" or just "...as staff in..."

Quote:
D.personnel
Just drop the "a" as above
