MAN! I just saw it for the first time, what does everyone else think of it?
one of the few movies made, that i've seen, that was as good as the book.
If I could have forseen the ending I would never have watched it.
Because it's such a downer.
Great film; the ending is not such a downer.
Actually, ONE flew over the cuckoo's nest.
And, isn't the fate of big rebels to end up being the big losers?
I like happier endings than that in this type of story.
I thought the ending was the best thing about it. It was unexpected, and it was a happy ending. Chief escaped! Murphy saved him, by inspiring him to escape. He didn't exactly bring down the whole hospital - but he put a dent in it at least. It's a realistic achievement hink, a happy enough ending for me.
I thought that it was one of the "greats". Nicholson was magnificent in his part, and the expression, "Nurse Ratched" came into the English language. What more could you want in a flick?
and, the supporting cast was outstanding too...danny devito, etc. nothing sugar-coated or hollywood about it. another noteable film which has some similarities is "Slingblade".
The ending was bitter sweet with the one character finding his way out (don't want to offer a specific spoiler). This was a true independent film which had the high production values of a Hollywood product but none of the pretenses. This role and Nicholson in "Five Easy Pieces" are landmark performances in film history. His latest performance in "Somethings Gotta Give" was heartfelt and real -- he hasn't lost his touch and with Brandos passing still takes his place as one of the top ten actors in filmdom.
BTW - Welcome to A2K and the film forum, agrote.
I assume Vonagut's metaphor for the 'society' we all know and love, is self evident!
BTW, agrote, no big deal but I noticed your provided a spoiler without a warning. It's protocol on the forum to warn of a spoiler even if it's an old film. I doubt that there are many of our forum who haven't seen this particular movie but it would be a good idea to insert something (in red would be nice):
<SPOILER AHEAD>
Just a suggestion for the future.
Good point LW, and may I add that the most amazing aspect was the nationality of the director.
And Milos went on to make "Amadeus" confirming that he is a master at handling actors.
PBS American Masters has honored him with an hour tribute:

Thanks LW, I can always count on you. I loved Man On The Moon
Thanks Lightwizard. I haven't seen Amadeus, but isn't it completely inaccurate? That's what music teachers have always told me. I hate Mozart anyway though, so maybe the more inaccurate the better, I could pretend it's about somebody else.
LW- That is really funny. I had not read your long post that mentions it, but guess what I watched on DVD this afternoon? Amadeus!
I had seen it years ago, and really did not remember much of it. When I watched it today. I loved it...........................except for Tom Hulse's part. I think that his asinine giggle was really over the top. I think that he could have demonstrated his immaturity, without sounding like a moron. It was a jarring counterpoint, to what was an otherwise magnificent film.
