Hello All!

I was wondering if anyone had some information on this piece or on the signature/artist.

I was able to find 1 reference to this painting, but what I found was a copy/print of the original that I own. Someone is selling the print on ebay and there description states its from the 1970's. The ad is here -

Here is the one I own:

@sevenjamesr,
I have one (a print on canvas to look like a painting) that is also signed "Sandy" which I believe our family received as a gift from Time Life for ordering so many of their books. For sure it was a free gift from someone for mail-ordering something. It was definitely before 1982 and I would suggest more like '79.

@jcboy,
Is this an original painting, or a print on canvas?

@sevenjamesr,
I would suggest that the painting we are looking at with the signature that is not "Sandy" was a reproduction done perhaps for a school project.
I own a print on canvas (looks a lot like an original painting but is not) that was sent to my family in the mail as a gift for ordering books in about 1979 (most likely from Time Life). The painting that has been posted here is dated '89 and I'm sure the print I have is much older than it.
I would suggest that Sandy is the original artist.
I love this painting. Always have. Do you actually have the original painting (not a print on canvas)? Can you see the brush strokes? My wandering mind has often wondered where the original painting is, and who is Sandy? I have been googling tonite out of curiousity but this post is all I have found so far.

@sevenjamesr,
I think it is very cool if you have the original. It must be worth something. Who is Sandy? How do we find out? Is it for sale?

@janice sandy,
I have often wondered about this painting I have that was given to me by a grandfather after I found it in his shed. I want to know about the artist and this thread here is the most I've found on it as well. At least I can understand the origin of the print being a mail order Time Life gift now. But why is it so hard to find out about the artist? Did you ever find more? I know this is an old thread but hoping to find answers!

@sevenjamesr,
I know this is an old thread but I have found the artist. It's Sandu Liberman and the name of the painting is Portrait of an Owl

@janice sandy,
A search on “Sandy” has led me here. If you can believe it, I just found out who Sandy was simply by chance, this past weekend 10/2/2022 at my garage sale. I was selling a sketching/painting of what appears to be a topless Brigitte Bardo, that I found in the trash, and is signed “Sandy”. A woman at my garage sale saw the picture, and claimed she is one of the few people left who knows the story behind the artist, because she happened to be married to the artist’s ex husband. Apparently the artist’s name is Sandy Scott, and she would model her work after the famous Romanian artist Sandu Liberman. She would purposely shorten the y in her name to make it appear as “Sandu”. She committed suicide at age 37. That’s what I was told, anyway. The story fascinated me, and I’ve decided not to sell the picture. The things you learn at garage sales!!!

@RPhalange,
That's it, alright.

Looking for a value? In a gallery, anywhere from $450 to $600. Ebay-ing it, expect somewhere around $200 - $300.
