@lucy6,
Hi Lucy6,
Respectable mean "regarded by the society" and Respectful mean "showing or feeling respect to someone".
If you are feeling to respect someone that mean he/she is respectful for you.
And if the person is respectful for the society that mean he/she is respectable for everyone.
Hope that it will be helpful for you Smile

It depends on how these words are used in the sentence.

@lucy6,
They are not the same but they do have a relationship.

Respectable would be sort of passive action. A person can be viewed as a respectable person by others ..as they form an opinion of their manners and decorum. This could be an indication regarding their reputation or position in the community ...etc.

However, respectful is a bit more direct... more about a person's actions or behavior toward another or others. They act or behave towards others in a manner that honors others..and does not take advantage ...such as deferring and more listening. A bit more about the interaction of how they act with others directly..as opposed to the position in the community .
