It is a felony under federal law to cause the death of an unborn fetus during the commission of a violent crime. Many states also have laws that criminalize killing an unborn child.

Why then, do we give the mother special consideration by allowing her to kill one by means of an abortion? This was a consideration in the ROE v Wade case decided by the Supreme Court in 1972.
