On House passing Bipartisan Medicare Bill

WASHINGTON -- The House passed a bill Thursday that may be its biggest legislative accomplishment of the year: a $214 billion package that fixes a massive funding gap in Medicare, extends health care for poor children and makes long-term spending cuts.

Thanks for nothing you bastards.

@edgarblythe,
But it's for the children. You should be delighted to sacrifice a little for the chiiildren.

I recall my delight upon hearing the Affordable Care Act was on solid footing because it would be partially funded by the three or four hundred billion that would come from Medicare programs. ETA: over the coming ten years.

They are slowly strangling all safety net programs and increasing military spending, despite the fact we already spend more on military than is decent or necessary.

@edgarblythe,
Today, an AZ state senator said she wished there were a law to force everyone to attend church on Sunday and another AZ official wants doctors to tell women that drug abortions can be reversed.

Indiana's governor signed into law a bill allowing discrimination against LGBT people in the name of religion.

Oh, and ted cruz is running for president.

I would ask god to save the USA but I know he washed his hands of it years ago and we are being punished for ruining his beautiful planet.

I think 70% of the population is crazy. (Statistics are 90% made up on the spot).

The biggest scandal is that even though you pay more per capita on public health care provision than we do, you still don't have universal health care. The drugs companies and other health care providers certainly get their money's worth from their pet politicians.

@izzythepush,
It's a huge scandal to me. But people persist in voting in politicians who obstruct the public good. Tough one to figure for me.

@edgarblythe,
Not so tough if you listen to popular radio and read the media. The regular citizen has heard and read the conservative lies so much they have taken on the guise of truth.

The average citizen is bombarded with liberal and progressive rhetoric. From the network news, liberal newspapers, and the majority presence on social media. Probably because conservatives are working.

And it is progressives that double down on lies. The Obama administration is a great example of that.

@edgarblythe,
You have poorly educated lickspittles like Coldjoint who lap up the propaganda on Fox News, because they're too stupid and too frightened to deal with reality.

@coldjoint,
Legitimate studies by foundations and universities show that fox news is highly inaccurate and that those who obtain their "news" from fox actually know less than those who totally ignore all news sources.

The most informed get their news from NPR. Even those who list The Daily Show as their top news source are ahead of people who get their news from mass media.

And mass media truly is mass. If I remember the numbers correctly, six corporations own more than 85% of all news outlets.

The only liberal media is underground.

And the United States is being dumbed down, a process that began with No Child Left Behind and continued with the merging of various media outlets.

More than 50% of all Americans read on the 8th grade level according to Scholastic, the children's book publisher and the promoters of book fairs. Conservative parents are much less likely to read to their children than liberal parents, which means their children start school with a disadvantage.

31% of college graduates only read on the 8th grade level as well. And the mean IQ in the US is no longer 100 but 95.

@izzythepush,
Were you on-line during the early days of the internet when posters like coldjoint would scan pages of encyclopedias into threads?

No, but it doesn't surprise considering that about 90% of what he posts are gifs.

We are bashing the Republicans, but that bill was bipartisan. Often the Democrats give lip service to their followers, but let the teaparty agenda advance just a step more.

And NPR fires people for speaking their minds. Like Juan Williams. You seem to be just another blowhole in a forum over populated with them.

Any criticism from opinionated self righteous people isn't worth the time it takes to read it.

Are your best chance of grasping the reality you dismiss because it doesn't the narrative you(and others) have fallen for. Words not action. Lip service and money thrown around doesn't get anything done.
