The Dutch rock group Golden Earring was formed in 1961--almost as long ago as the Beatles, they have lasted better, continuing to tour and perform. Here, Barry Hay sings their 1973 hit "Radar Love."

This group from Mississippi, 3 Doors Down, had a hit with "Kryptonite" in 2000; the singer is founding member Brad Arnold:

Neil Sedaka was a very successful song writer--"My Way," a hit for Frank Sinatra is a good example--and he was a hit performer in his own right.

@Setanta,
Sorry, Setanta...I loved Sedaka too but the song 'My Way' lyrics were written by Paul Anka (not Sedaka).

"My Way" is a song popularized by Frank Sinatra. Its lyrics were written by Paul Anka and set to music based on the French song "Comme d'habitude" composed in 1967 by Claude François and Jacques Revaux. Anka's English lyrics are unrelated to the original French song."

I thought They Call the Wind Maria was a very old song. Had no idea it was written for Paint your Wagon (the play) until a few years ago

Well, he ain't much of a singer, but he's male, and he's singin', so it qualifies.
