Update on Oldtimer. I had expected the worst when it
took a fall from the table last year.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v188/nekonomad/nekonomad042A.jpg

Its recovery is just amazing; I didn't expect new growth so quickly
from such an old houseplant -- after all it'll be thirty years old
this fall. It stays indoors from now on.

Thanks, VaneEnglish. Do you have a garden also? If so, don't be shy in showing it...

Newcomers to the scene: border bearded irises. These rhizomes
produced about three stems each, the best results I've had toward
getting my border in place for the past three years.

These yellow irises are still on standby for use in the border: this spot may, on the other hand, be better for irises. Am toying with the notion of putting some of them on the border, anyway, just to see how they make out there.

Gave my Scots Pine a light trim, cutting back new growth candles
to continue toward creating a Giant Bonsai form. Pretty painstaking work done
here, using a Fiskars pole pruner to get to each upright candle
individually. This view is the start ; click on picture for the finish.

Next update: this time next year, so,stay tuned! Happy gardening....

My peegee hydrangea's in full bloom now.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v188/nekonomad/nekonomad057A.jpg

I had set it onto a privet hedge as a flowering
accent. It's a faster grower than privet, so I've been
pruning it back in order to allow the privet to catch
up,cutting off flowering growth in the process.last
year I left it alone to let it bloom. Photo links to a
wider view.

Lovely, neko!

I so admire your commitment to your garden ... & the wonderful results!

(pssst ... I wouldn't at all mind a recent photograph of a certain special critter (close to your heart & mine  ) enjoying the joys of your summer garden. You know - snoozing under her favourite bush, admiring a butterfly, smelling the roses, etc ...That would be very nice! Very Happy )

Okay - using different photohost:
This shot taken at start of trim. It links to the shot taken after: it was an all afternoon job, using stepladder and a Fiskars pole pruner. The difference is only noticeable with close scrutiny.

A clump of Intermediate Bearded iris Eleanor Roosevelt http://www.iriscitygardens.com/images/tallbearded/eleanorroosevelt-t.jpg at the each end of this row of
yellows (Miniature Tall Bearded Spanish Coins ) shown here should provide a pleasing complementary color accent for my iris border. Assuming they bloom at the same time, of course. A dividable clump is already in place and can be seen at the far end.

This angle, along with the lighting, gives
a better idea as to where I'm at in terms
of shaping my pine's silhouette. Best seen
at full screen size.

I'm about to add more crocuses today to Nekochan's garden path.
This year more will be added to the left side as shown in this
shot taken last spring. Click on picture to get an idea of the
job ahead.

Managed to fit a few in among a flourishing clump of
ostrich ferns without disturbing their runners, and called it
a day with 25 corms installed.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v188/nekonomad/nekonomad068A.jpg

Then a good soak to give them a good start.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v188/nekonomad/nekonomad069A.jpg

Check back sometime in April to see results.

My order of irises arrived yesterday. Maybe I'll
have the evergy to attend to them this evening....

Six more yellows were added to the border project,

and three BB Brown Lassos were set out elsewhere for later
use as accent plants. The grower gave TB Cinnamon Girl as
a bonus, and it's now in a brooder bed until I can determine
where best to place it. Squirrel guards are in place and doing their job.

A couple or so years ago I started some gentians gentiana asclepiada from seed for the heck of it.
Three survived; two are in bloom - one white, one blue. Most likely I'm out of its hardiness range. Anyway
for what it's worth, here's what they look like. With a little luck, these plants may multiply by sidegrowth.

it's interesting by virtue of not being a commonplace flower:
