Gulf of Mexico Mud Slump?

Off the coast, in a line from about the mouth of the Mississippi to about Matamoros Mexico, there appears (on Google Earth) to be a massive mud slump. What is this, and what was the cause?

Do a google search on mud slumps in gulf of mexico and you will find references to it in google books and PDF files.

My guess is the silt flume from the eroding midwest states that travels down the Mississippi that before the Corps of Engineers got involved in "flood control" used to build up the Delta and Naw Orlins
