Is this gold?

Help! I was digging post hole for a addition and I found what to
My untrained eye appears to be gold?

It's black and white and crumbles- the white kinda reminds me of salt. It is littered with what appears to be gold flakes?

I would post a picture but can't figure out how!

Thanks-

Kris!

@dalehileman,
I use photobucket just because I always have but I'm sure there are many other options. You upload your photo there then click on the 'direct' version of your photo's url which will copy it and then you paste it

@Wiggles611,
Since its with some quartz and apparently a softer rock, it could be mica flakes, pyrite, or even gold.
Id start with pyrite. Take some of the "gold flecks and hold em in some folds of tin foil and hold a lit match under the grains. If they smell like sulfur, its pyrite, If it pops , its mica, if it just lays there and doesn't do anything it could be gold or another metal like nickel cooper amalgam.
Lets see where we get in the first test and Ill tell you what to do next.

Alas Ros at 84 I forget, while sometimes other guests reduce its feasibility

I had copied your suggestion however and emailed it to him so instead he might remember

Not totally hopeless in old age

If you've still got a pile of shiny golden metal, the next trick involves a piece of slate blackboard (a small chunk we call a "touch stone" and some acids (I will give you the formula if youre still around, its easy treek)

@DNA Thumbs drive,
as roger said , read the question that was posted. I think you should reserve a little "sheesh" for your comprehension skills.

BTW, most gold mined today, occurs in the crystal lattices of other elemental metals and metallic minerals, usually oxides and sulfides, .

@farmerman,
Some college kids speak that way in arguments, I guess.
But my dormmates didn't, and I graduated fairly recently.
Mostly you hear it from from the coarser characters in movies like American Pie.

In any case, it's the verbal equivalent of a body shot.

@DNA Thumbs drive,
Seems that Kolyo established a "teaching moment" with you. Too bad it just went over your head.
