painful joints/tendons

i don't know if you guys give medical advice but wth..

So ok so i am in my early 20's and in good shape. I do swimming,some running and i also workout. All in all i exercise almost everyday.

My problem is that my joints "only" ache during inactivity. it gets really uncomfortable sometimes and makes me wanna stretch (i know it sounds weird but the pain is there).

I don't know if this can also be an issue but my joints also pop a lot especially for a 20 year old. When i start exercising there will be some popping joints only initially.

I have been asking around and so far people suggested me to drop exercising for a while. I did so for around 2 weeks and it only got worse. Another suggestion i got was vitamin D supplements which i am trying now.

Anyways,i have had this problem for a while now and never got around treating it (busy year). I would like to know if this is anything serious or can be treated at home.If its serious i will try to make time and see a professional.

Go see an orthopedist. Could be any number of things, including arthritis. The most sensible thing would be to go see a doctor, get some xrays and lab work done.

Yeah, I agree with that. Try to take Vitamin B.

Just being cold and tension can cause these feelings, too.
Are you underweight/

No, we don't. We give opinions, anecdotes, and sometimes smart alec comments, but one goes to a doctor for medical advice, and an anonymous online q/a chat site for shooting the breeze.

That being said, your symptoms could be a lot of things. As a rule, never assume it's the WORST and RAREST thing first, first check the obvious things. Among the obvious things here: Do you have good running shoes? They're essential to keeping joint shocks to a minimum; bad shoes will lead to more joint pain. Do you warm up? Warming up/down helps to minimize cramps, pulled muscles and tendons and such. Vitamins/electrolytes? If you're not getting enough vitamins and electrolytes in your diet, you may need a supplement. Exercise causes you to lose electrolytes faster, so they must be replenished through diet or dietary supplements/sport drinks (such as Gatorade).

@Banana Breath,
True.

My story is that after a bunch of days in San Francisco, walking a lot of up and down streets, I could hardly move my feet one morning. This is years ago, so I forget the details.

Once I got home, I consulted a guy we at the med center liked, newly in business as Orthopedist, and he told me to change shoes. Thus, my adidas, back when there weren't many adidas, and, if I remember, none for women, so I picked the smallest.

That fixed it immediately. Arch support.

@ossobuco,
I don't know why sensible footwear (especially for women) gets such a bad reputation. It's worth its weight on gold.

I might like those but we may have different feet.

I'm a sliding slug now, but have at times walked ten miles a day, some of that on cobblestones. I well remember being the only person in Italy, while well dressed enough, wearing sneakers, where.. nobody wore sneakers.. in early March. It had turned out that nike air max (this is not an ad) worked with my feet. So, I was svelt except for my clod shoes.

I traveled through Inner Mongolia 25 years ago wearing some good heavy American hiking boots. I stayed in yurts and ate stewed mutton and drank camel milk tea.
What attracted the most attention among the locals were my boots. They looked, pointed, and asked through my interpreter how much they cost. Back then, about $100, which for these people was an entire year's wages. They did heavy labor and field work in what were little more than what we'd call cloth bedroom slippers.
It's good to have your perspective shifted now and then. When you say your prayers, remember to be thankful for your comfortable footwear.

@iceblue,
I recommend glutamine supplements. There's also a supplement that has glutamine, ornithine and arginine combined. If you exercise frequently, it will help you in various ways, I understand.

@Banana Breath,
Well, yeah. And also be glad you can walk without losing your balance.

Mongolia - we had a person in Venice, CA who was very very interested in Mongolia. He was a mix of odd and someone to listen to.

Years later, a guy from Mongolia came to our gallery in northern california to show his stuff and we both liked it. We agreed to a show and also bought a few works ourselves - he was wildly prolific, moving around, tattooing. We saved him a month's space. He disappeared.

@FBM,
Is that what we call 'glucosamine' back in the states? Great stuff is so, but it's only effective if you have the right condition. Takes about a month of use to become effective.

I have used some sort of stuff containing ornithine and arginine to no observable effect.

@roger,
Derp. I take both. Yeah, I meant glucosamine. And glutamine is what's in the tablets along with arginine and ornithine, so that wouldn't be expected to help much. Nvm about that.
