Grandparents' Brags

Want to brag on the little darlings in a setting where no one will become upset or bored and simply walk away? Well, I feel like bragging on Dusty tonight. He scored 93 on the six year old's version of the SAT test, placing him in the top 6% in his grouping.

The whole world stops when I'm with my grandson. He and I spend countless hours playing board games (checkers, chess, Life, etc.), also cards and the version of Scrabble that allows for stacking. He likes these things despite the fact that he has Game Boy and countless other electronic games and gizmos. One exasperating story: He loved broccoli so that he could eat nothing but that for a meal - until a cousin observing him at it remarked, "That stuff will put hair on your chest. From that moment he refuses to eat any more of it. "I don't want hair on my chest," he says. There is no explaining it so that he will overlook his cousin's words.

Today was the last day of school. My son brought home a 4.0 report card...the first time he's ever done that!!! We took him to the new Harry Potter film & dinner at his favorite restaurant to celebrate. He and his two friends (all 10 yr. olds, just finished 4th grade) had a contest when my back was turned. They wanted to see which of them could eat the greatest number of packets of sugar. My son won. We will be up for awhile.....

Edgar I know what you mean. My granddaughter is 5 and she will start school in the fall. She can read simple text and can write and spell many words. To me she is amazing. (it looks like I'm bragging too) :wink:

I wouldn't be in the least surprised if Dusty's high score was, in part, due to the attentions of a fond grampa who engages him in activities that demand some mental activity, and at the same time teach him to interact with human beings in a loving, positive way...

I couldn't love Dusty more if he were my own son. I try to give him the sort of attention I missed out on.

Edgar, I'm not a grandfather, or even a father, but the way you are talking reminds me of the way my grandfather used to be with me when I was a kid.

Thanks for the reminder. I loved him a LOT. Grampas are the greatest. Smile

Enjoy

My 29 month old can do a 12-piece jigsaw puzzle all by herself.

She's also cute as a button.

Must all come from her daddy.

It's really too bad about the 'hair on the chest' thing. I'll make sure not to mention it to my little one, who also eats broccoli. I was working on a poem about it a while back but never did quite finish...

Broccoli

Broccoli florets on her chair
Broccoli florets in my hair
A broccoli crown I prepare
Half she'll eat, half she'll throw
Broccoli, they say, will help her grow

From her tray the broccoli falls
Watch her fling it on the walls

Small green flowers on the floor
dried and stuck on cupboard doors

But happy and thankful is the mummy
of a child who thinks veggies yummy

~~~
As you can see, she has her moments, but overall a great kid.
Tonight, my dd ate all the brussel sprouts.
Note I wrote 'all the brussel sprouts', not 'all HER brussel sprouts'. She had her serving and asked for more, and more, until there were none left.
I don't even like brussel sprouts. I just make/eat them for the anti-oxidants.
