Hello,

Could you tell me if there is a difference between 'may be' and 'perhaps' and if there is a specific use for each of these words.

Maybe is one word, not two.

As far as meanings go, they are pretty much the same.

It's raining today, but perhaps it will be sunny tomorrow.
It's raining today, but maybe it will be sunny tomorrow.

It could be said that perhaps sounds a little more formal.

For instance, in a restaurant :
Perhaps Madam would like to sit by the window.

When the question asked for the specific use for "each of these words" as opposed to terms or phrases, I naturally assumed that it would be maybe.

It's more a case of genre. Maybe is quite rocky.

Whereas perhaps is more easy listening.
