Elbow pain - injury or old age?

My elbow has been bothersome lately. Just enought pain to be annoying, but not enough that I've done anything about it.

Now eventually I will talk with my doctor especially if it gets worse...it is achy especially after being imobile for a while - like after resting or sleeping. It only hurts when I do this --- stretch it out -- I know then stop doing that. My question is this old age -- now granted I'm not at retirement age, but at that point just past 50 where maybe aches and pains are part of aging.

Thoughts on that...have you older folks experienced anything like that.

@Linkat,
Sounds like you might have a bit of arthritis or bursitis. Could be from age, an injury, or fluid and inflammation accumulating in the joint.

Try some heat on it when it is sore. If it becomes chronic, some cortisone will help with the inflammation.

Do you lean on that elbow a lot when at your desk? If so, knock it off.

Smile

@Butrflynet,
Hmm will need to see if I lean on it - haven't give it much thought - I was thinking inflammation or something -- I've just been ignoring it.

@Linkat,
I will like to recommend searching an evaluation with a physical medicine specialist. Artritis is rear to be so specific on an elbow. Usualy hands or any of the weight bearing joints are the ones affected.

I concur with Bfly on the bursistis possibility, also a tendinitis, an epitrocleitis, a local myositis and osteoartrosis are other options. Better make an appointment even if does not seems like a life treathening complaint it is altering your quality of life.

@luismtzzz,
It won't be a bad idea to check your uric acid level as well. Gout is not only a symptom for the big toe of your feet.

The most tests you can have the better, so with the entire view of your health status your doctor might have a better diagnosis and treatment for your pain.

I don't have much thought about it, maybe you are getting this type of problem because you are aging. Check once with your doctor.

@ehBeth,
Funny it hasn't been bothering much at all this past week. As I said it kind of comes on and off.

And I was just leaning on my elbow - but funny it was the opposite side.

My hip was bothering me for a while until I realized it was from sitting on a bad chair (at the computer) Changed chairs and it's not so bad.

If you are on the computer a lot , notice the angle of your arms/elbow at the keyboard.

@PUNKEY,
good point - I am at the computer alot at work - we actually recently moved and supposedly have all proper type of equipment to keep us "healthy" - desks that can move up and down, chairs that are adjustable, etc.

Not so, if insurance doesn't pay for the tests.

@Linkat,
Past 50? Think hormonal changes. But think arthritis and think about the bundle ( fairly large) of nerves that are located near the elbow.

@Linkat,
I remember having that once, maybe five or six years ago. It was definitely from my elbow resting on computer desk behavior.
