First of all, it's never too late. The degree has opened doors that would have otherwise been shut and locked. Once hired, it's a matter of showing your boss(es) that you're more important to the company than all the other new recruits; work harder, produce more, and ask questions about what more you can do.

Show them that you are creative and able to increase efficiency.

That degree hides a nasty stain on the wall.

Now I understand why doctors have their degrees posted in their offices.
