Are there any laws against outing (the publishing of private messages without consent) and cyberbully, especially when a site refuses to deal with said problems?

@Larien,
Are these laws in America? Sweden? Andorra? This is an international site.

@Larien,
I was hoping you'd say Andorra.

I'm more familiar with the laws there.

@Larien,
Generally, if you send something it is out there and you don't have a lot of protections. If someone gets your private stuff via theft or hacking you have some recourse after the fact. If you are a minor you might have some other protections against lurid pictures, etc. You might want to give us some more details.

Columbus Making Cyber Bullying a Crime
Updated: Monday, June 16 2014, 08:48 PM EDT

DOWNTOWN COLUMBUS (Rob Wells) -- Columbus City leaders say they're cracking down when someone uses technology to terrorize.

Tonight, Columbus City Council passed legislation to make it a crime if a Columbus resident uses their smart phone or a form of social media in order to bully another person.

Council member Zach Klein says that until now, there was no formal city code on the books on how to handle the growing problem. Klein says he and other members of council have been working with Columbus Police on determining specifics on the law and penalties. He said those could be released as soon as tomorrow

@engineer,
Details usually do help, don't they?

On this site I am on there is a person that publishes any messages you send to them and then insults the other person, linking the message to the person's profile with the use of an insulting name. They then encourage people to go after said person, especially if they support gay rights. The members of the site are usually 13+.

@Larien,
Personally, I would stop sending personal messages to this person, since it's known he publishes them.

Are you talking about yourself and messages you've privately sent, or others? If it's you, stop sending messages. If it's others, you've got to examine whether that person is able to speak for themselves. If they are, let them figure it out.

Larien, you have to differentiate between bullying and getting into the middle of 2 people who are both perfectly capable of taking care of themselves.

If it's you, learn to take care of yourself by stopping the behavior that is causing this person to accost you.

It's a website for God's sake. It's not as if this person is showing up at your front door. You can in a virtual way walk away from this person.

@chai2,
Oh no, it's not me. I'm merely asking about laws and stuff out of curiosity to expand my knowledge on the subject.

@Larien,
Then why did you say the below?

Note I said if it's about you OR if it's someone else on the site.

Maybe you should read the TOS of the other site that you're not talking about to exand your general knowledge of it.

@chai2,
Sorry for the misunderstanding that we have.

I do note what you said, I just thought that I'd put it out there that it wasn't about me being attacked or anything. Sorry if I came across as defensive or something, or I was ignoring what you said.

What I said in that quote, I should have been more specific, I see now. What I said is happening on that site (which will remain anonymous to avoid drams, etc.), and that situation has made me curious as to the laws regarding situations like that. Does that make sense, or do you think I should just delete this question and stop giving everyone a headache?

I have read the TOS of the other site, but they have nothing written on this topic.

@Larien,
You can't delete this question.

Why don't you post it on that other site and see what kind of info comes up?

Ask this guy:

Alleged revenge porn site operator heads to trial
Source: AP-Excite

SAN DIEGO (AP) — A San Diego judge determined prosecutors have enough evidence against the alleged operator of a revenge porn site for him to face trial on conspiracy, identity theft and extortion charges, a state spokesman said Monday.

Kevin Christopher Bollaert, 27, appeared before San Diego County Superior Court Judge David M. Gill on Monday and returns to court July 16 for what's being heralded as the first case against a revenge porn site operator, said Nicholas Pacilio, a spokesman for California Attorney General Kamala Harris. Bollaert has pleaded not guilty to 31 felony counts.

His attorney Alexander Landon did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

Authorities say the Bollaert earned tens of thousands dollars operating two websites for the scheme.

@chai2,
I think I might try that.

Thanks for your help and sorry again for the misunderstanding.

In relation to deleting the question, if I cannot delete the question, what's the delete button up the top for? Is that just for the administrators. (Sorry to be a pain).

@Larien,
You can only delete for something like ten minutes after something is posted.
