I may have posted this already, so I'll post the original and a cover.

Real contrast there.

I was surprised to think that this highly successful American singy girl hasn't been yet shown up here. I'm exorcising an earworm, too. I woke up with this playing in my head. From 1966 . . .

@Setanta,
I don't think we've heard from this Hitchcock blonde yet, either.

Have we had a bit of Dolly yet?

Here she is, about two weeks ago at the Glastonbury Festival.

Even the security people are line dancing.

The woman is a legend!

There'some really good stuff on this thread. Despite being wimmin, there is some great talent being put forward.

OK, when anyone thinks of Katie Melua, they nearly always go for "crazy" or "bicycles in Berlin", but this one is just pure class....

I will be there.....

That was certainly different . . .

Here's what one might call a shop worn hit, but its a different kind of voice, too . .

If I mentioned this before...mea culpa.

The original version written by another singy girl, Jackie DeShannon was a Roaring Twenties style tune and is almost un-recognizable.
Carnes gave producer Val Garay and especially keyboardist Bill Cuomo(Prophet 5 synth) credit for re-arranging the song with some superb hooks that kept it #1 for 9 straight weeks

Here's another DeShannon tune written by Sonny Bono and given the Phil Spector treatment. Later it became the Searchers UK #1 hit.

I had never heard of this woman; found her while searching on Youtube for an instrumental version of Perfidia. Her name is apparently Carola Standertskjöld.

I don't believe we've had a song yet by the wonderful Norwegian soprano known just as Sissel.
