@gumpy01,
So what techniques/sites have those [who have got the answer] used to solve it?

@gumpy01,
trawl through appropriate lists of composers until you hit the jackpot then the opera title can be found in Shakespeare.
Any clues to 47 or 48?

Been through so many lists..... re # 48 google the salient points of the question (it only took me a couple of minutes on this one to find the author).

@gumpy01,
Got 48 now!
Talking of lists - 14 is proving a mystery to me as well as Everton question.
Opera is a Shakespeare character.

To quote Handel " Hallelujah, Hallelujah". Thanks for the pointers - would have found it days ago if only I'd turned over the page!!

@Ramires7,
#48 - Author uses a pen name. Brother uses family name. I can't jabber on anymore without giving it away.

@Opsimath,
I've cracked 47, are you able to trade with a hint/clue for no. 28 - likewise thought I had it but doubts are creeping in.

@Ramires7,
#28 - I agree with an earlier post about it all to do with vowels.
#42 - Does anyone else think the question should read 505 candidates not 507? Or am I heading down the wrong alley?

@Ramires7,
Look at the vowels in the first words as opposed to the second words then look at destinations,you should be able to see it then.

@Opsimath,
Cheers, thanks for the hint. I'm working on the opera one at present.
As to 'Everton' think shirt numbers and significant matches.
