House Speaker Boehner acknowledges 'stumbles'

http://news.yahoo.com/house-speaker-boehner-acknowledges-stumbles-162603220.html

"WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Republicans in the House of Representatives, whose ranks swelled as a result of last November's elections, have gotten off to a clumsy start this year, House Speaker John Boehner said on Tuesday, as legislative initiatives have been derailed by attacks from inside the party.

"There have been a couple of stumbles," Boehner told reporters after meeting in a closed session with his rank-and-file.

The latest Republican casualty was a border security bill aimed at demonstrating a tough law-and-order approach toward stopping illegal immigration, mostly along the southern border with Mexico.

Republican Representative Pete Sessions, who chairs the powerful House Rules Committee that is controlled by Boehner, told reporters that leadership is taking a breather on the border security bill to give members more time to understand how immigration issues will be tackled this year. The bill, Sessions added, "was well understood until it got confusing."

=====================================================================
Well, it's not uncommon for a "dry drunk" to stumble.

Funny, this story about T-Baggers demanding "purity" and mucking up the works, REMINDS ME OF SOME OF OUR VERY OWN DU MEMBERS who have never met a Democrat they couldn't criticize or belittle.

Oh well, this is the Congress we voted for...guess we have to live with it....afterall...there's really no difference between the parties

Oh wait, maybe I have that wrong. There is a difference between the parties, but apparently NO difference between the T-Bagggers on the right and the purist on the left. They just hate everyone!

John Boehner Destroyed By Forbes In Scathing Smack Down – A Legacy Of Disgrace

FORBES!!!!!!

January 27, 2015 by Samuel Warde

he noted conservative website Forbes.com published a scathing indictment of Speaker John Boehner in the wake of the growing scandal surrounding his invitation to Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu to speak before Congress.

The article, entitled Bibi Netanyahu — aka ‘The Republican Senator From Israel’ — May Have Made A Fatal Political Mistake offers an in-depth analysis of fallout in Israel over the controversy, predicting the Netanyahu may very well lose his long-standing control of Israel as a result of the fallout from his diplomatic FUBAR.

The article begins by accusing Speaker Boehner of attempting “to create two conflicting foreign policies for the United States—one pursued by the President and the other pursued by the Congress.”

After explaining concerns for Netanyahu at home and the possibility that “Netanyahu’s desire to interfere with American policy while seeking to bolster his re-election campaign, may turn out to be the very political screw-up that will allow the joint ticket forged by the Labor-Hatnuah political parties to bring an end to Netanyahu’s long reign atop the Israeli government,” the article goes on to consider Boehner’s actions.

In a rare attack of this magnitude on the controversial Speaker of the House, Forbes author Rick Ungar offers the following analysis:

I get that the Speaker doesn’t like the President or his policies. I get that many readers of this piece will have snarky responses about how this President already embarrasses himself and our nation, etc., etc., etc.

But what neither the Speaker, nor those who cannot manage to think beyond their distaste for this president, understand is the truly unprecedented step Boehner has taken by joining with the leader of a foreign nation against his own president.

Presidents come and go. However, respect for the office of the presidency, particularly on the part of the man who is second in the line of succession to the presidency, should not.

Through his actions, Boehner may have scored some points for his party and for his preferred policy option vis-à-vis the Iranian nuclear negotiations. But in the process, the Speaker of the American House of Representatives has succeeded in embarrassing the Office of the President.

Considering that Speaker Boehner has failed to accomplish anything of note during his Speakership, I can only wonder how it must feel to have his legacy be his effort to disgrace the American President in the effort to bolster the political chances of a foreign leader.

Ungar concludes, noting:

While I have often disagreed with Speaker Boehner, I have always kind of liked him in the belief that, while our solutions might be at odds, he wanted to do what he believes is best for America.

It would be a struggle for me to harbor such positive feelings going forward.

Seeking to damage any American President by helping a foreign leader embarrass our own leader can never be considered something that is best for the nation. And that is simply the truth no matter what your political persuasion or your feelings about the current occupant of the Oval Office.

@bobsal u1553115,
That's how far the conservatives go without regard for our countries political health. They're all NUTS!

Why are they so attractive when they're trying to destroy our country from within?

The conservatives are Alquidas best hope.

Rick Perry loses second request to dismiss case against him
Source: Austin American-Statesman

A judge denied a second and more substantial request Tuesday by former Gov. Rick Perry to dismiss the indictment against him prior to trial, likely extending his criminal case for the next several months as Perry continues mounting a possible presidential campaign.

The ruling by Judge Bert Richardson, a San Antonio Republican, comes five months after Perry’s attorneys filed the writ of habeas corpus, a sign of the slow speed at which the case is churning through the criminal justice system. Perry’s attorneys could now appeal Tuesday’s ruling to the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals, a process that could take several months and stall possible resolution of the case.

A Travis County grand jury Aug. 15 indicted the former governor on charges of abuse of official capacity and coercion of a public official — two felonies — arising from his June 2013 demand to District Attorney Rosemary Lehmberg to resign or lose a two-year, $7.5 million allocation to the state’s Public Integrity Unit after her DWI conviction.

Lehmberg did not resign, and Perry vetoed the money.

I once tried to understand why Speaker, John Boehner, was so hostile to President Obama, after all during the president's first term they had played golf together. Later, I began to suspect the Speaker was being intensely pressured by the Tea Party. I believe this still is the case because there were a significant number of members of the House voting against his remaining speaker. Today, any concern I felt for this Benedict Arnold has dissipated. He dared invite a foreign leader to undermine his president's foreign policy! During the last presidential campaign, Netanyahu came to the US making his political preference for Mitt Romney known. The Zionist PM man is sticking his nose into American politics. What a brazen snub to the president of the US!
