2Chelicerate fossils move in the geologic record through the Paleozoic and are connected via structural advancement to "split" off the many orders of arachnids,pycnogonids,myriapods, diplopods, chilopods, meristomes and then, INSECTS.

If you want to be taken seriously, why didn't you clip the rest of Raups "Letter to the editor" of SCIENCE. After the place that you clipped your quote, Raup continued;

Raup has always been a main spokesman for the disorderly and jumbled means that evolution occurs, with periods of species stasis and even times of rapid evolution (like PE predicted)> He s always been a chronicler pf the mathematics associated with speciation and evolutionary progression, wherein EXTINCTION plays a huge role in "keeping the plate free of many related species".

Quahog is , unfortunately, still trying to harken to an argument that has slowly disappeared over 30 plus years ago when the understandings of genomics began to insert themselves into the assemblages of life on earth.
