Although the real king of all guitsrists has probably never left his living room....if we're talking about the ones we know...who do you like the best?

Let's define the genre for the sake of this question...rock.

My number one hands down is Steve Vai.

Hmm...tough question. Steve Vai is amazing indeed, but...the other Steve, Morse that is, is pretty amazing too.

See....this is my problem. So many greats to narrow it down to just one.

Fishin, good call. I forgot about Jeff Beck. I saw him once in Vegas. I've never heard anyone make sounds like that with a guitar before. Incredible.

If we are talking about skill, you can just forget about the big name guys, Hendrix, Iommi, SRV etc. In terms of skill the best would probably be Michael Angelo Batio. He can melt your face with his playing. Another awesome one is little known Rusty Cooley, chances are most of you haven't ever heard him, so I give you this: http://www.rustycooley.com/videos/Rustysolo8-1.wmv

Although he isn't the most skilled Zakk Wylde is my favorite.

All great picks.

Jeff Beck's been on my radar for thirty years.

Stevie Ray Vaughan and Eric Clapton, too.

In the last ten years, Danny Gatton 's a newer favourite.

One listen to Funky Mama from the 88 Elmira St. disc and I was a convert. The whole album is a keeper.

I'll be checking out Rusty Cooley, thanks for the link.

Joe, playing music in the DC area I got to see him many times(Gatton) The climax of his act often times was when he'd grab a longneck and fire off some slide licks that would curl your toes.
