What do you call a treadmill which's to be run by your own legs' force instead of electric power?

I saw a treadmill long ago on which I realised that you'd to run its platform by your own legs' force instead of a platform which runs by electric power.
Is there a special name for this type of machine, which we need to run by our legs?

Yes. A "treadmill". They have existed for centuries.

@Swapnil,
You might have the question in reverse:

A conveyor belt is one that is run by electricity or non-human power, whereas a device with a belt or platform and tread that is run by human legs can be called a treadmill.

@dalehileman,
Wouldn't it better be called 'pedal'?

Actually, it is called a treadmill.

@dalehileman,
Dale, that doesn't make sense.

It is a treadmill.

That is what they've been called since before there were ones with electronic functions.

Google will find you lots of stupid things that people say and do; that doesn't mean you have to copy them. Manual means "with the hands". I know it has come to be used by the iPod generation to distinguish actions performed by people from those performed by, or with the aid of machines, but to apply it to the ancient machine known as the treadmill, worked by the feet, as "tread" conforms, which has inspired a metaphor for unending tiring and demanding labour, just seems a step too far.

A non-motorized treadmill.

It's not called "manual" because you don't use your hands to run the mill. It's not called "pedal" either, because tread already means using one's feet. Are people really that appallingly ignorant of the language?

It's called a treadmill, and it's called that because you use your feet, you tread.
